Team USA Minnesota’s Gabriele Grunewald, of Perham, raced in the two-mile at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston Saturday afternoon.
The race had a strange ending between American Jenny Simpson and Kenyan Sally Kipyego.
Simpson was closing on Kipyego with a lap and a half to go and passed Kipyego at the last lap bell, where Simpson pulled up thinking the race was over and slowed allowing Kipyego to pass and sprint to victory.
Grunewald, the USA ranked No. 4 - 1,500m runner, placed sixth in the two-mile with a time of 9:55.21
Grunewald most recently competed on Jan. 25 at the Glasgow British Athletics International Match in Scotland as a member of the U.S. team and finished second in the 1500m. She has a best of 4:01.48 in the 1500m and has posted 8:43.52 in the 3000m.
