Garfield Branby

Garfield E. Branby, 76, of Frazee, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Triumph Hospital in Fargo.

Garfield Ernest Branby was born to Gerhard and Esther (Helland) Branby on Feb. 6, 1932, in Glenwood, Minn. He grew up in Glenwood, graduating from high school in 1950. While in Glenwood, Garfield worked for the fisheries hatchery. He entered the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, leaving with an honorable discharge.

On July 7, 1956, Garfield married Cydera Illg at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Evergreen, Frazee. They moved to Aurora, Colo., and later to Albert Lea, Minn., where Garfield sold real estate. They then moved to Frazee, MN. Garfield worked in construction in the area and also farmed.

Garfield enjoyed horseshoes, bowling, golfing and watching sports in his leisure time. He was a member of the Wolf Lake Horseshoe Club and VFW Post 8165 of Wolf Lake.

Surviving Garfield are his wife Cydera of Frazee; three sons, Craig (Ann) Branby of Perham, Jeff (Michele) Branby of New York Mills and Dana Branby of Perham; his daughter Kristy (Tom) Meyer of Fargo; two brothers, Harlan (Lori) Branby of Lodi, Calif., and Donald Branby of Glenwood, Minn.; two sisters, Wanda Miller of Bloomington, Minn., and Betty Schaub of Albert Lea; a sister-in-law, Ruth Branby of Detroit Lakes; and six grandchildren.

His parents and brother Manferd preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 15, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Evergreen, Frazee, with the Rev. Anthony Cloose officiating. Burial was at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery in Little Falls, Minn. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee.
