Gayle Sonnenberg, 68, of Dent, passed away on Nov. 10, 2013, under the care of Red River Valley Hospice, surrounded by her family, following a valiant battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 15, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Loon Lake. Burial will take place at St. Paul's Loon Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 14, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Loon Lake with a prayer service to take place at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the church on Friday.

Gayle was born July 24, 1945, in Perham, to Arthur and Dorothy (Rader) Bauck. Gayle grew up in Perham, graduating from Perham High School with the Class of 1963. She was united in marriage to Eugene Sonnenberg on April 11, 1964 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Perham. The couple was blessed with four children, Michael, Julie, Patricia and Gina. The family made their home of rural Dent. Gayle enjoyed the years she stayed at home to raise her family. She then went to work for the United States Department of Agriculture where she worked in the Farm Service Agency. She had enjoyed 30 plus years of employment.

Gayle found great joy in singing and did so any time she had the opportunity. She also loved the outdoors and went deer hunting each fall and enjoyed fishing the area lakes. Eugene and Gayle enjoyed vacationing together and took many memorable trips. Gayle was a great hostess and the house was often filled with joy and laughter as she entertained family and friends. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Loon Lake.

Gayle will be greatly missed by her husband of 50 years, Eugene of Dent; four children, Michael (Tammy Shields) of Vergas, Julie Baumgart of Perham, Patricia (Scott) Braun of West Fargo, N.D. and Gina (Dustin) Heisler of Vergas; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Kathy (Jim Helsene) Grover of Ottertail; mother-in-law, Bertha Sonnenberg of Frazee; two stepbrothers, Bruce (Carol) Albright of Barnsville, Minn. and Jim Albright of Dent; two brothers-in-law, Roger (Robin) Sonnenberg of Arcadia, Calif. and DuWayne (Marilyn) Sonnenberg of New York Mills; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Sonnenberg and Bonnie Sonnenberg of Vergas; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; along with many other family members and dear friends.

Preceding Gayle in death were her parents, Arthur and Dorothy Bauck; father-in-law, Reinhart Sonnenberg; two infant brothers, Gerald and Harold; brother, LeRoy (Lucille) Bauck; son-in-law, Brian Mitchell; and brother-in-law, Dennis Sonnenberg.
