GBB: Rangers push past Yellowjackets 55-43

PERHAM — The Crosby-Ironton Rangers strung together three-point possessions in the second half to break open a close game and send the Perham girls basketball team to their third straight defeat 55-43 Thursday evening in non-conference action.

A three-point shot by Analea Erickson gave Perham an early 9-8 lead and the Yellowjackets held the scoring advantage to 17-14 with 2:02 to play on another Erickson basket. Perham’s lead never stretched beyond three points in the first half.

Crosby-Ironton scored the final six points on baskets by Shannon Lundgren, Abby Grindorff and Meredith Silgen to lead 20-17 at the break.

Maria Rutten scored quickly to start the second half and two free throws by Sydney Roberts gave Perham their only lead the rest of the way 21-20 with 15:11 to play.

Roberts scored a team-high 11 points on a strong night driving the lane. Point guard Brittany Miller also scored 11 for Perham.

The Rangers junior guard Lauren Peterson sunk a three pointer and followed it up with three the hard way for a six-point swing in thirty second building a ten-point advantage for the visitors 36-26 at the 10-minute mark.

Perham closes to within five at 36-31 on an Roberts’ basket down low two minutes later.

Cyan Hale answered for C-I with a basket and a foul to push the lead back to 39-31.Grindorff scored on consecutive trips and Silgen gave the Rangers their largest lead 46-31 with less than five minutes to play.

Perham closed to within single digits late but were held off by the Ranger offense in the waning minutes.

Miller was 3-3 from three point land with two assists to go with her 11 points. Rutten scored 10 points shooting 50 percent from the field, while pulling down five rebounds.

Erickson had seven points and team-high seven rebounds.

Silgen led all scorers with 17 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Peterson and Lundgren each scored 10 points. Grindorff scored eight points for C-I.

Perham falls to 2-2 at home. C-I is 2-1 on the road, their only road loss coming at No. 4-AA Staples Motley.

Perham (3-4) will play next at the Little Falls holiday tournament taking on Little Falls at 3:45 p.m.

Crosby-Ironton (4-2) will play in the Pierz holiday tournament opening against St. Cloud Cathedral. Both holiday tournaments are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 27.
