Girls Basketball: Jackets lose halftime lead at Breckenridge
BRECKENRIDGE -- The Perham Yellowjackets girls basketball team took a 25-22 lead into halftime but the Breckenridge Cowgirls commanded the second half en route to a 53-42 victory in Heart O' Lakes action Friday night.
The Yellowjackets used a patient offensive scheme to work the ball around until getting open looks and attacked the basket to the tune of 25 free throw attempts.
"Only converting 13 of them was a pretty big deal, though," Perham Head Coach TJ Super said.
Breckenridge senior guard Alyse Engen led all scorers with a dozen points, including two three-pointers. The Cowgirls had two other players in double figures. Morgan LeNoue had 10 points; Katrina Dahlgren scored 11.
Analea Erickson led Perham, as she has in all four games, scoring 11 points.
Emily Tobkin added eight points.
"Tina Scheidecker, though, was a catalyst for Perham on both ends of the court, playing her best game of the year," said Super.
Scheidecker scored nine points, mostly from the free throw line, where she was seven of eight. She also led the team in rebounds with seven, adding a block and two steals.
Breckenridge kept pace with Pelican Rapids, both teams atop the conference standings at 2-0. The Cowgirls are 2-1 overall. Pelican Rapids defeated Frazee 63-57 Friday night in their home opener to push their overall record to 3-0.
Perham falls to 0-2 in the Heart O' Lakes and 0-4 overall. The 42 points scored against Breckenridge is a season-high in the first 10 days of the campaign.
