'Go-Getters' represent East Otter Tail at MS Walk
The area "Go-Getters" raised a total dollar figure of close to $5,000 for the 2008 MS Walk held May 4 in Fergus Falls.
The Go-Getters thank the many people who contributed, the walkers and the volunteers for making this event so successful. "We can be proud of the representation that our community had at this event, and are thankful for all the contributions that were made by numerous individuals, community groups and businesses," said captain Dennis Guck.
The MS Walk was held at the Fergus Falls College for the first time. It was a great location, which offered both an indoor track and the estimated one-mile track around the college campus. The perfect spring day found a group of enthusiastic walkers and a team of dedicated organizers and volunteers helping the MS Walk to be a success. The end of the walk estimate showed that more that $30,000 was raised to fight the devastating effects of Multiple Sclerosis. This was up from $23,000 last year. The total participation was 147 walkers. They represented groups from Perham, Dent, Wadena, Fergus Falls, Detroit Lakes and more.
Funds raised will go to the research of the cause and hopefully a cure of Multiple Sclerosis. The MS Society also supports the area self-help groups along with both a water aerobic program and chair program at the area community centers. They also help provide financial assistance through aids for daily living, respite care programs, chore services, emergency assistance and many other services and programs.
