'Golden Oldies' theme for 50th anniversary regional flower show in Perham August 6
The District Flower Show will be held at Perham's Prairie Wind Middle School on Thursday, August 6.
This is a rare opportunity for East Otter Tail garden enthusiasts, as the regional show is hosted in Perham only about every seven years, according to Donna Gill, Perham Lady Slipper Garden Club.
Public viewing and refreshments will be from 3-4 p.m.
There will be over 400 exhibits, feturing annuals, bulbs, perennials, herbs, fruits and vegetables, ornamental grasses, planters, houseplants and artistic designs. "All American" winners will be highlighted. Viewers will be able to see what's new and being grown in gardens in our area. All plants are top quality and identified.
The purpose of forming the district horticulture society 50 years ago was education. This hasn't changed throughout the years. They provide speakers at district meetings and horticulture shows. The club earning the most points receives a traveling trophy. Awards and ribbons will be given to the top exhibits.
Garden clubs making up the 11th district include Ada-Borup, Lake Park, Beltrami, Georgetown, Mahnomen, Detroit Lakes and Perham. The local Lady Slipper Garden Club is hosting this year.
The public can bring exhibits from 8-11, to Prairie Wind Middle School. Judging will take place from 11-3 p.m.
Contact Karen Williams at 346-7522 or Donna Gill at 346-7295 for more information. You do not have to be a member of the garden club.
