Grand Rapids takes Highway 10 Classic title
PERHAM — Grand Rapids swept four games to claim the third annual Highway 10 Classic baseball title defeating Fargo 21-5 in Sunday’s title game.
Grand Rapids opened the tournament defeating the Perham Stingers 11-1. Bemidji claimed the consolation championship with a 20-6 victory over Pierz.
The Stingers saved pitching arms during the tournament for upcoming league play this week going 1-3 in the tournament.
Perham won their fourth game, an 8-4 victory over Pequot Lakes after losses to Grand Rapids 11-1 and 9-6, and a 14-5 defeat to Pierz.
Stoll took the loss on the hill in the opening game against Grand Rapids. Dylan Perrine had the lone RBI.
Alec Meyer was hot at the plate in the 9-6 loss collecting four hits. Perrine had two hits in the loss to Pierz. Patrick Murphy took the loss.
Stoll led the offensive attack in Perham’s win over Pequot Lakes with three hits. Chase Curtis picked up the victory throwing five innings.
Rain hampered the tournament keeping grounds crews at all four fields in New York Mills and Perham busy.
The Perham Buzz (10-2) took the tournament off to get healthy as the injury bug has set into the team.
