Hamann honored by MN dental association
Dr. Michael Hamann, of Perham, was selected as the recipient of the Minnesota Dental Association’s 2014 Outstanding Service Award.
Hamann was honored by more than 9,000 dental professionals in attendance at the association’s annual convention, the Star of the North Meeting at the RiverCentre in St. Paul.
After graduating from the University of Minnesota’s School of Dentistry in 1972, and following a two-year stint as a Navy dentist at Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base in Jackson, N.C., Hamann began a dental practice in Perham in 1974. This year marks his 40th anniversary at Hamann Family Dentistry.
Originally from Willmar, Minn., Hamann has been an active member of organized dentistry. The West Central District Dental Society chose him as their representative on the Minnesota Dental Association’s Constitution, Bylaws and Ethics Committee, where he has served for the past three years, and as a delegate at the House of Delegates meetings for the past five years.
Hamann has also been a pillar in his community. He serves on the school board, has served on the city planning commission, and was a coach at Perham High School for 25 years. He has also mentored and encouraged countless students – and young professionals – in achieving their life goals.
In addition, he has donated his time and talent to help children in Otter Tail County receive dental care during the annual Give Kids a Smile event.
The Minnesota Dental Association represents 77 percent of practicing dentists in the state. It is committed to the highest standards of oral health and access to care for all Minnesotans. Learn more at www.mndental.org.
