To the uninitiated, ice fishing seems improbable, wacky, and dangerous. But every winter, more than 2 million hardy northerners go to their place on the lake: literally on the lake.
In his book, "A Hard-Water World: Ice Fishing and Why We Do It", Greg Breining captures the quirky work of ice fishing - its natural beauty and solitary subzero vigils, along with its oddball practices and practitioners. Greg will talk about his book at the Perham Area Public Library on Saturday, October 10, at 3 p.m. The Library is located at 225 2nd Avenue NE.
This lecture is in the second in the Fall Lecture Series which is produced by the ITOW Veterans Museum and the Perham Area Public Library and funded in part by a grant from the Minnesota Humanities Center. Sponsors include United Community Bank and Forum Communications.
The November 7th lecture will feature Barbara Sommer, author of Hard Work and a Good Deal, a history of the Civilian Conservation Corps.
