Heather Kampf, Gabriele Grunewald to Run GNC Live Well Liberty Mile in Pittsburgh Aug. 1
Minneapolis/St. Paul – July 30, 2014 – Team USA Minnesota’s Heather Kampf and Gabriele Grunewald will be among the participants in the women’s field at the third annual GNC Live Well Liberty Mile in downtown Pittsburgh on Aug. 1. Kampf is the two-time returning champion for the evening race while Grunewald will make her second appearance, having finished runner-up in 2012.
Kampf has a best in the road mile of 4:21.39 which she set at the Ryan Shay Mile last weekend. Grunewald has also posted 4:21.3 in the road mile, a mark she achieved in winning Grandma’s Minnesota Mile in 2013. At the USA Outdoor Championships in June, Grunewald placed fifth in the 1500 meters while Kampf crossed the finish line in sixth. Both are also national champions, with Kampf a two-time USA 1 Mile Road champion in 2012 and 2014, and Grunewald a USA Indoor 3000 meter champion in 2014.
“This is a highly competitive field and I have a ton of respect for the ladies I will be competing with,” said Kampf, who is the two-time defending champion at the Liberty Mile. Her time in last year’s race was 4:32.
The third annual Liberty Mile features a new American Development Program Pro Mile with professionals competing for $20,000 in prize money. The Liberty Mile is also the fourth stop on the Bring Back the Mile Grand Prix Tour 2014.
