Heier, Carignan to represent Perham at regional spelling bee
Prairie Wind Middle School's Spelling Bee Final was held on February 1, and the champion for this year is Kayla Heier.
A second spelldown was necessary between Cole Carignan and Ben Korsmo to determine second place. After going through several rounds, Cole Carignan came through with the win for second.
Kayla and Cole are representing Perham at the regional Spelling Bee in Fergus Falls, reported Kurt Hoesly, who coordinated the spelling competition this year.
The following Perham middle school students had the top four scores in the preliminary rounds of the spelling competition.
Fifth grade: Austin DuRose, Zepherian Richardson, Mattie Scheidecker, Dominick Zierman
Sixth grade: Cole Carignan, Kayla Davidson, Roxanna Kading, Kweshaan Ludwig, Maria Rutten
Seventh grade: Jesse Bucholz, Andrew Johnson, Ben Korsmo, Chelsea Mitchell-Toepper, Dani Nelson, Abby Thompson, Logan Vorderbruggan
Eighth grade: Whitney Bormann, Tristin Brasel, Leighton Covington, Kayla Heier, Katie Izarraraz, Chris Knutson, Leshay Metcalf, Ali Nelson, Alyssa Studer, Josh Still.
