In Henning, couple finds demolition derby a perfect setting for their wedding
HENNING, Minn. - There's been plenty of weddings under the sea, or on top of mountains, football games and even marathons.
But in Henning, the demolition derby hosted the "I do's" between John Jorgenson and Jess Holcomb.
Who knew smack dab in the middle of the Henning Harvest Festival Derby that fender-bender love could be found in the midst of the flying dirt and debris. Jorgenson and Holcomb are dedicated demoltion derby diehards.
The both fix up and drive derby Cars. So when the two met recently at an area derby, well, it was all bumper and body business.
They have heard it all, from comparisons to Duck Dynasty and Redneck Weddings.
As the Henning demolition derby got underway, Jorgenson and Holcomb, along with a few friends and smashed up cars, got married in the pit.
Jorgenson said they got married there "just because it was cheap and we both love derbying."
Nothing fancy. A real budget saver. No high end flowers, photos. Just true love at the derby.
"It was her idea to get married at the derby, so heck ya, we had to do it," Jorgenson said.
The couple says it plans to work on building another derby car this winter so they both can compete next summer at demolition derby events.
