Randy Maland was traveling on Hwy 1 near Waterstreet Road around 2 p.m. when he was struck by a 1999 Ford Contour that had been pushed into oncoming traffic after being hit from behind. Maland was thrown from his motorcycle and into the south ditch, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.

The string of accidents began when Courtney Sem, 61, of Underwood, stopped on Hwy 1 and attempted to make a left turn onto Waterstreet Road. Behind Sem, a car, driven by Gearald Vanwatermulen, 72, of Perham, stopped to wait for the turn to be made.

While waiting, Vanwatermulen was hit from behind by a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Amanda Krause, 27, of Fergus Falls.

The crash resulted in a domino effect, with each of the three vehicles in the line rear-ending one another. The car driven by Maland was then hurled into oncoming traffic, causing the vehicle to hit Maland, according to the sheriff's office.

No other injuries were reported; seatbelts were used by all drivers and passengers, according to the sheriff's office.

The Underwood Fire Department and Ringdahl Ambulance responded to the scene, along with the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.
