High-speed chase lands in crash, arrest
A Perham man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly stealing a 12-pack of beer and leading police on a high-speed chase.
Eduardo Garcia, 34, was booked on charges of theft, DWI test refusal and fleeing in a motor vehi-cle, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.
Garcia was first reported by an Oasis Cenex employee for allegedly walking out the back door with a 12-pack of beer around 3 a.m. After law enforcement was alerted, Garcia returned to the gas station's parking lot, where he was spotted by a Perham police officer.
The officer attempted to pull Garcia over, but he fled, leading the officer on a chase through town-ship roads and onto Highway 34, reaching speeds as high as 80 mph.
Roughly four miles outside of Perham on Highway 34, Garcia hit a patch of ice and lost control, causing him to slide into the ditch; he was not injured.
