Hockey fan remains in serious condition after altercation following SIoux-Gopher game
GRAND FORKS - A Grand Forks man injured during an altercation at the Ralph Engelstad Arena following Friday's University of North Dakota-Minnesota men's hockey game remained in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Altru Hospital on Monday, according to a nursing supervisor.
Jason Smith, 34, fell and hit his head outside the arena, fracturing his skull, his father, John, told the Herald.
UND Police Chief Duane Czapiewski said officers arrested Peter Chwialkowski on suspicion that he punched Smith, who was unconscious on the ground when police arrived.
Chwialkowski, 28, of Oslo, Minn., was booked on an aggravated-assault charge. He posted $1,000 bond and was released Sunday.
He's expected to have a preliminary hearing in November.
Chwialkowski's phone number is not listed. It was not clear if he had retained an attorney.
