Hogie leads LP-A over NY Mills in 6A subsection semis

MOORHEAD — Lake Park-Audubon's Breann Hogie led all scorers with 23 points and the Raiders never trailed in a 61-47 victory over the No. 2 New York Mills Eagles in the 6A girls subsection semifinals at Memorial Auditorium Saturday afternoon.

The No. 3-seeded Raiders built a double-digit lead in the first half and led by 17 at halftime 32-15. 

New York Mills cut the Raider lead to single digits in the second half, but the Raiders had the answer to any Eagle runs with Hogie and Bailee Bartunek attacking on the offensive end.

Bartunek scored 18 points for Lake Park-Audubon and recorded a double-double adding 11 rebounds.

Lydia Rutten led the Eagles with 18 points. Ellie Rutten fouled out of the game late in the second half with 13 points.

The Eagles struggled from the line making nine of 21 attempts (43 percent). The Raiders shot 10-16 from the stripe (63 percent).

New York Mills completes their season with a record of 19-6.

Lake Park-Audubon (17-8) moves on to face No. 1-seed Ada-Borup (26-1) Tuesday, March 11 at 6 p.m. back at Concordia College for a berth in the Section 6A final.

The Cougars cruised to the subsection final with a 73-31 victory over Norman County West in the opening game Saturday.

The Section 6A final will be played at the University of Minnesota-Morris Friday, March 14 at 7 p.m.  

No. 6-seed Wheaton/Herman-Norcross plays the top seed West Central Area in the 6A south subsection final.
