Holiday Dollars program getting underway; donations due today
The Perham Chamber's 2012 Holiday Dollars program will be kicking off soon, and participating retailers are being asked to make their donations to the program by Friday, Oct. 19.
The Holiday Dollars program, which began in 2002, is intended to encourage local residents to do their holiday shopping in Perham. People can purchase Holiday Dollars at the Chamber for 80 cents on the dollar (meaning for every $80, a person will receive $100 Holiday Dollars - a 20 percent discount). Holiday Dollars can be redeemed at participating retail businesses.
All participating retailers are asked to make a $100 donation, which will help promote and advertise the program. Non-retail businesses are asked to participate by making a cash donation to cover the discounted dollars. Last year, community businesses donated $4,500.
Over the years, the program has resulted in more than $373,000 in holiday spending in Perham.
This year's goal is to raise enough money to make $50,000 in Holiday Dollars available - up significantly from the $14,000 goal in 2002.
For more information, call the Chamber at 346-7710. Holiday Dollars will go on sale to the public in early November.
