Howard C. Weston, 81, of Detroit Lakes, died peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at St. Mary's Innovis Health, Detroit Lakes, surrounded by his family.

Howard C. Weston was born to Howard and Alma (Schwartz) Weston on Dec. 7, 1926 in Detroit Lakes. He grew up and attended District 20 Country School in Lakeview Township, rural Detroit Lakes. He served in the United States Army from 1945-46, during World War II. Following the war he also served in the occupational army. On Dec. 14, 1951 he married Virginia Neske at the Detroit Lakes Methodist Church. They made their home in Detroit Lakes, where he worked for the Fairmont Creamery as a milk truck driver. He also did electric work for Francis Fritz. He then worked as a mechanic for Baker Buick in Detroit Lakes. He later owned and operated Howard's Garage from 1959-70. In 1970, he went to work for the city of Detroit Lakes as a mechanic, retiring in 1990.

Howard enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, woodworking, reading, and watching Animal Planet on television.

Surviving Howard are his three daughters, Debbie (Steve) Earley, Joy (David) Schouviller and Deanna(Craig) Braun, all of Detroit Lakes; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Sally (Bob) Lage of Audubon; and one sister-in-law, Betty (Art) Miller of Wadena; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Virginia (Feb. 16, 1989); a grandson, Andy Braun; two sisters, Betty McDougall and Elaine Weston; and one brother, Donald Weston.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, May 18 at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, at Assembly of God Church, Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Jeff Culver and Rev. Vergil Moos officiating.

Casket bearers are Michael Guhlke, Brandon Braun, Ryan Earley, Rochelle Nustad, Natalie Braun and Gina Schouviller. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
