Elizabeth Huwe, a recent North Dakota State University graduate, has done a little bit of everything. During college, Huwe was an intern at Spotlight Media Inc. and Go Radio in Fargo, N.D. Now, she is excited to take on a new challenge.

“The way I see it, yesterday’s headline is today’s history, and it keeps sprouting from there,” said Huwe. “The back story, the roots, matter. It’s how life works.”

With that mindset, it’s no surprise that she majored in journalism, but also studied history.

While growing up, she spent most of her time working on the family farm near Wolf Lake, Minn.

“If you could add up all of the hours, I’ve probably spent more time in a barn than anywhere else,” laughed Huwe. “But I adore the critters, so I don’t mind.”

In her free time, Huwe enjoys reading history books, tackling DIY projects and watching the Minnesota Twins “even if they’re having a crummy season.”

“We’re so excited to have Liz on board with us here at the Focus,” said Editor Marie Nitke. “With her talent, professionalism, previous experiences in journalism, and familiarity with the Perham area, she was a shoe-in for the job.”

Huwe will be covering education and crime in the Perham and New York Mills areas, and will also write feature stories and other articles as assigned. Readers may reach her at ehuwe@perhamfocus.com.
