Hwy 78 reopens between Perham and Ottertail
Construction continues along Highway 78 between Perham and Battle Lake, though the section from Perham to Ottertail was reopened on Monday.
The stretch from Ottertail to Battle Lake, meanwhile, was closed off while crews replace several culverts and begin reconstruction work in downtown Battle Lake. Traffic will be detoured to Highway 108 and Highway 210. The detour is scheduled to last through early October.
Only local residents and motorists accessing businesses located within the closure area may use Highway 78. The road will not be passable at culvert replacement sites and within a three-block section of downtown Battle Lake. A parking ban took effect in Battle Lake on Sunday evening.
In the reopened area between Perham and Ottertail, motorists may still encounter occasional lane closures and flaggers.
Resurfacing of the entire stretch is expected to begin in mid-September, with the project wrapping up in mid-October.
The public is invited to attend weekly project meetings, held at 10 a.m. Wednesdays at the Battle Lake City Hall. Representatives from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and Mark Sand and Gravel will be available to answer questions and address concerns.
More information about the project is available at www.mndot.gov/d4/projects/hwy78.
When the project is complete, motorists will notice a smoother, safer ride along 26 miles of Highway 78.
