Icy roads lead to accidents in Otter Tail County
Icy roads led to several accidents over the weekend in many areas of Otter Tail County.
Fortunately, according to the sheriff's department, no major injuries were reported.
In two of the worst cases, vehicles actually rolled or flipped over.
Kevin James Nold, 56, of Valley City, N.D. went off the road at Donald's Lake near the city of Ottertail on Dec. 14. The sheriff's department said Nold was westbound, going 15 mph along Donald Road, when his 2000 Dodge Caravan skidded. He slid into the right ditch, rolled to one side and found his vehicle partially submerged in water on the edge of the lake.
Dawn Frank, 36, of Richville, escaped injury at 7:43 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16, during a rollover on Long Lake Road, north of County Highway 1 near Otter Tail Lake. Frank lost control of the vehicle as it slid off an icy patch of road, entered a ditch and flipped onto its roof.
Other accidents along icy roads were reported near Wendell, Henning, Frazee and Erhard.
Roads were bad in other parts of the state, as well. Minnesota State Troopers in the central, west central and northwest regions responded to 60 crashes over the weekend - 15 of those were rollovers - and another 92 vehicles that had slid off the road and needed tow assistance. Nine accidents resulted in injuries, none serious.
Along with weather-related accidents, the sheriff's department said no fewer than six car/deer crashes were reported over the weekend in areas including Dalton, Bluffton, Underwood and Clitherall.
