Interact Club fundraiser focuses on safe, clean water
The Perham High School Interact Club is kicking off a new fundraiser to provide safe, clean water to people in developing countries.
The Interact Club, which is the student branch of Rotary, will be collecting donations starting next week, March 17, through March 31. Club member Racole Karels said donation jars would be made and placed at various businesses in downtown Perham, along with informational posters about the fundraiser.
All donations will go to Ryan’s Well Foundation, a Canadian-based charity that brings wells, latrines and other water infrastructure and sanitation projects to impoverished areas. Karels said Interact Club members heard a presentation about Ryan’s Well last year, and knew right away that they wanted to join the effort.
In addition to the donation jars that will be out this month, the club is also raising funds through penny wars at the elementary and middle schools, going on all next week. The club’s annual Talent Show fundraiser, coming up in April, will also benefit Ryan’s Well.
Karels said the Perham club is collaborating with Detroit Lakes’ Interact Club, and that together, they’ll “hopefully raise enough to build a deep well, which costs a lot of money.”
