Irene Sophie Haverland, 96, passed away on Sept. 15 at Perham Living in Perham.

Irene was born Aug. 23, 1917 in Colfax, N.D., the second of nine children to Ingvald and Anna Lund.

She married Harold Haverland in Fargo N.D. and together they raised their seven children, John (Joyce) Haverland, Harley (Marlene) Haverland, Marlowe (Belva) Haverland, Russell Haverland, Sherryl (Jim) Klein, Janelle (Gary) Torgerson and Kathy (Rick) Matchinsky.

After Harold's death in 1984, Irene continued to live in her own home in Perham until the age of 95 when she moved to Prairie View Assisted Living in Perham. She had a great year there with her housemates, Lois, Ellie, Joyce, Ken and Pete. They became her extended family, as did her awesome caregivers.

Irene is survived by her seven children, 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, her sister Norma Schubert, sister-in- law Olivia Lund and a long list of family and friends that loved her for the wonderful lady she was.

She was preceded in death by her husband; granddaughters, Jami Klein and Cassie Matchinsky; and great-grandson, Garett Haverland.

A time of remembering will be Friday, Sept. 20 at New Creation Lutheran Church, 295 Coney St. W., Perham, from 4-7:30 p.m. with a with prayer service at 7. A memorial service will be Saturday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. at the church.
