The Perham girls basketball team bounced back from last week's home conference loss to Hawley with two victories.

Perham defeated Frazee 58-35 and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 51-43.

Before the Hawley game, control of the conference was in Jacket hands but the subsequent loss to the Nuggets has hopes for a conference title in the hands of the Heart O' Lakes cellar dwellers.

Hawley has games at Frazee and home versus Breckenridge. The Hornets and Cowgirls have a combined conference record of 3-21. A loss to either team seems unlikely.

Hawley is 11-1 in Heart O' Lakes play. The Yellowjackets are 11-2 with one final game at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton. Hawley's only loss was at home to Perham 59-48, in mid-January.

Last week's defeat of Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton serves up a plausible 12-2 conference record and a lock on second place, at worst.

"It was an uninspired effort from our girls, as D-G-F outplayed us in most aspects of the game besides the final score," Head Coach John Gullingsrud said. "We had a nice run to end the first half as we made a few outside shots."

Those shots included a three-point basket by Steph Miller from just inside half court as the halftime buzzer sounded.

Perham held the lead by a dozen at the break, 27-15.

Miller's shot had all the makings for a big second half, in terms of momentum and confidence.

"The momentum didn't carry over into the second half," Gullinsgrud said. "We were never able to establish a flow on either end of the court."

The Rebels outscored the Yellowjackets 28-24 in the second half. Perham's first half cushion was enough to weather the second half storm aided by a two-for-eight free throw shooting percentage for D-G-F. Take those six misses at the charity stripe and Miller's half-court bomb away and the final minutes could have been much more tense.

Miller led the Jackets with 12 points. Katrina Moenkedick was held to only nine. Kaylan Huber added seven. Rebel Sierra Senske led all scorers with 15 points. She collected 12 rebounds to record the double double.

The Jacket victory over Frazee was tenuous for the first eight minutes, but with the score 25-19, Perham would reel off the final 11 points of the half to take a commanding 39-16 lead at the break.

"We didn't come out with a lot of energy, but it was nice to see us hit some outside shots which really helped give us a good lead in the first half."

Perham was 21-61 from the field in the game and a paltry 44 percent from three-point land, going seven-for-16.

"We struggled defensively at times and gave up too many easy looks both inside and outside as our girls weren't very quick on their rotations. Fortunately for us Frazee did not shoot very well either and we were able to get away with many of our mistakes. Hopefully our girls can get some rest this weekend and come back next week with more intensity and energy."
