The Yellowjacket softball team won its fourth game of the past five with an 8-6 win at Frazee Monday after rain-delayed weeks of non-play.

"With nearly a two-week break from game play, our energy level and mental preparedness were not exactly game ready," Head Coach Jill Walter said. "A couple of mental errors made some innings pretty touchy." Perham outscored the Hornets in the middle innings scoring five of their eight runs in the fourth and fifth frames.

Perham put up two runs in the first only to be answered by three Frazee runs in the second.

The score would remain 3-2 Frazee until the fourth. Jessica Speicher and Tiana Lynne scored on a Brita Sundberg fielder's choice and a single by Steph Miller.

Frazee countered in the bottom half of the inning when Erica Rotz and Bayleigh Antonsen rounded the bags to regain the lead 5-4.

Speicher would score the game-winner in the fifth to cap a three-run inning. Lynne singled to score Kaila Formanek. Kristina Januszewski plated an unearned run against the Hornet defense and Speicher would tag from third on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sundberg.

Lynne put up an insurance run in the top half of the seventh scoring on a Miller single.

"We buckled down and got the runners to cross when we needed them. This team's goal has been to do that, and I would say we've improved our execution with base runners on. It's a good win to start a busy week of play," said Walter.

Januszewski pitched all seven innings scattering seven hits, allowing six runs, three earned, walking three and fanning four. She held the top of the Hornet order in check allowing only one hit in 14 appearances by the Frazee leadoff to clean-up hitters.

Game notes: A malfunctioning scoreboard gave a few interesting and incorrect scores in the early innings causing Frazee Head Coach Dave Trautman to state, "Unfortunately, it doesn't erase those two runs you just scored," in conversation with Perham Coach Walter between innings.

Both teams had bases-loaded with no out situations in the fifth inning. While the Jackets scored three in their half, it was the defense that bailed out Januszewski in the bottom.

Third baseman Etta Scheidecker gunned Brittney Blauert down at the plate trying to score from third.

Frazee's Sadie Stender was put out on relays from centerfielder Natalie Wierbos to catcher Formanek on a play that allowed Joclyn Mickelson to score, but Formanek would get Stender attempting to nab third base.
