Jacket swimmers put up the points on Parents Night
Last season, Parents Night for Perham/New York Mills swimmers ended in a one-point squeaker victory for the Yellowjackets over Detroit Lakes. This year, parents got to kick back and watch a performance worthy of a 47-point margin of victory.
The Yellowjackets defeated the Lakers handily 116-69.
Rylie Rothmeyer made the night memorable by breaking the school record in the 500-freestyle in a time of 5:41.99. The previous record was 5:42.87, set in 2008.
Of the 12 events, the Yellowjackets took first in eight, en route to a lob-sided victory.
The Yellowjackets took the top two spots in five events.
Both 200-medley relay teams finished one-two in the first event of the meet.
The A-team of Bailey Meyer, Kelsey Kratzke, Sam Salathe and Natalie Murphy won the event in 2:01.49. The B-team of Brittany Roberts, Beth Ingebrand, Kyra Arneri and Laine Miller were next to finish in 2:09.57. The C and D-teams finished fifth and sixth.
Kratzke and Jill Burns were the first and second in the 200-IM. Kratzke's time of 2:36.11 was tops followed by Burns at 2:39.41. Heidi Weber (3:02.92) was fifth and Tara Wenaas (3:20.68) finished eighth.
Salathe (1:10.64) was second to Arneri (1:08.18) in the 100-butterfly. Roberts finished fifth in 1:15.71.
Murphy, Lexi Richter and Annie Ingebrand made it a sweep of the top three spots in the 100-freestyle. Murphy was the only swimmer under one minute. Her time of 59.41 was two seconds faster than Richter in at 1:01.54 and Ingebrand's 1:03.50.
The 400-freestyle relay teams were the final of the five multiple top spot sweeps.
The A-team of Murphy, Rothmeyer, Arneri and Salathe won by over four seconds (4:04.54). The B-team (Jackie Hanson, Kratzke, Miller, Richter) was second in 4:08.78.
Other event winners were Rothmeyer's record-breaking 500-freestyle time. Hanson and Miller finished third and fourth behind Rothmeyer; the 200-freestyle A-team of Rothmeyer, Salathe, Kratzke and Murphy made it a sweep of the relays for the Jackets in a time of 1:49.77. The Lakers top team was nearly a second behind at 1:50.68.
Four Jackets finished in the top six of the 100-backstroke. Meyer was first in 1:09.53. Burns was third in 1:15.27. Roberts finished fourth in 1:17.14. Kristina Galbrecht was the fourth Jacket in a time of 1:23.37.
