The Perham volleyball team needed a victory in the season finale versus Detroit Lakes to have any chance at a home first round playoff match. The Jackets got the win defeating the Lakers 3-1, by scores of 25-17, 25-21, 19-25 and 25-18.

"This was a must win for us as far as seeding is concerned," Head Coach Dan Christenson said.

The victory garnered the Yellowjackets the #4 seed and they will face #5 Breckenridge at the Prairie Wind Middle School Thursday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.

A victory over Breckenridge will likely bring a rematch with the #1 seed, Wadena-Deer Creek, currently ranked #2 in the state with a record of 25-0.

The final game of the season was also parents and senior night and with the traveling crowd from DL, the game was played in front of a packed house.

"It was a night to honor seniors: Abby Kalina, Amber Kalina, Kelli Meehl, Mary Guck, and Kaylan Huber," Christenson said.

The Jackets played a far more consistent game than the Lakers and aside from the set three hiccup, dominated play.

Katrina Moenkedick, matched up against two six-footers from DL, made her presence known at net with 18 kills and also set up her teammates with 13 assists. Brooke Mickelson had a stellar night both on offense and defense with 11 kills and 11 digs and senior Mary Guck moved the ball to her strikers with a game high 16 assists, along with seven digs.

The Lakers looked like a different team in the third set finding ways to set up Carrie Sorensen, who finished with 17 kills.

"If we could have cut our unforced errors in half, we could have won...but we struggled on our defensive passing," DL Head Coach Jim Wood said.
