The Perham Jacketbots robotics team took 13th place out of 40 teams at a regional competition on March 10-12 in Duluth, Minn.

The team finished the qualifying rounds with a record of 5-4-1 and advanced to the finals of the competition, where they combined forces with teams from Grand Marais, Minn. and Wadena, according to team mentor Chris Happel.

The FIRST Robotics Competition, which is aimed at grades 9-12, combines sport with science and technology. The students work with teachers, professional engineers, corporate sponsors and more to create a robot for competition.

"The team worked hard on the robot, and it ran great and held up very well," Happel said. "We'll miss our graduating seniors as well as John Rutten, our lead mentor."
