After opening the season with a convincing road victory at Crookston, the Perham boys basketball team backed it up with a 10-point home victory over conference foe Pelican Rapids, 62-52.

Both teams traded baskets in the first half with the Yellowjackets hanging on to a five-point advantage.

Jordan Cresap hit a big three-point basket in the waning seconds to stretch the lead to eight at the half. Kraig Nelson, of Pelican Rapids, attempted to answer from downtown at the buzzer but his shot would not go down.

Last week, Head Coach Dave Cresap noted that the game versus the Vikings was a good way to measure his team this early in the season.

Pelican Rapids would test Perham in the second half.

After stretching the lead to 13 points with a quick start out of the locker room, Perham weathered an 11-point run from the Vikings, spearheaded by Luke Halbakken and Ryan Huseby.

Huseby was forced to play quietly after receiving his fourth foul early in the second half.

Perham's lead would again toggle around a five-point advantage.

The Yellowjackets' play caused Pelican Rapids to foul often and Perham was in the bonus and into the double bonus doing much of their work from the charity stripe.

With 4:44 remaining in the game, Perham held a six-point advantage.

Halbakken drove the paint and slashed to the hoop, but Sam Stratton blocked his shot leading to another Cresap three-point bomb bumping the lead to nine points.

Halbakken fouled out after scoring 21 points and Perham held on easily for the double-digit win.

Huseby also fouled out. Perham held the Viking big man to just six points.

Jordan Bruhn collected quite a few bumps and hacks driving the paint constantly. Bruhn led the Jackets with 16 points and seven assists. He shot five of nine from the field and the same from the stripe.

Mark Schumacher scored 13 points and Nick Tobkin had 12. Cresap was two for two from three-point land and three of four from the field. He added a free throw scoring nine points.

The Yellowjackets improve to 2-0 on the season. Perham is averaging over 70 points per game and remain ranked seventh in class 2A rankings.
