Ellingson threw five innings surrendering only one run on back-to-back doubles in the second inning to Bryce Frydenlund and Tanner Dahlen.

"Our starting pitching was very good today," Head Coach Hans Hanson said.

The Yellowjackets got off to a fast start in the second game giving Ellingson all the runs he would need in the first inning.

Leadoff hitter Mike Warne and the next two batters Shawn Stafki and Ellingson loaded the bases. A pitch hit Ben Bucholz, with the bases loaded, to push Warne across the plate.

Stafki would score the eventual game winner on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Andrew Muer.

First baseman Jon Langlie was a star in the batter's box, going 4-5. He had a double and three singles.

Perham took a tenuous 1-0 lead into the seventh and final inning of game one, only to see the Green Wave rally for four runs in their half of the final frame.

Both teams loaded the bases in the seventh. East Grand Forks got a few free passes, while the Yellowjackets had to manufacture base runners the hard way.

"We get into trouble when we walk batters," Hanson said. "We've got a few things to work on, but for the first outing we're happy with a split."

Game notes: Langlie's third consecutive single one-hopped the left field fence during the fourth inning for a long base hit.

East Grand Forks' centerfielder Darrin Hager robbed third baseman Muer of extra bases by making a diving grab in the power alley between right and centerfield.

The Yellowjackets have three upcoming games in two days traveling to Fergus Falls Friday before hosting a doubleheader Saturday morning versus Little Falls with play beginning at 11 a.m.
