Detroit Lakes moves on to double-elimination play Tuesday in Fergus Falls. Perham's season ends with a record of 13-9.

The game was delayed twice, once for rain and a near hour-long delay for lightning in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Perham loaded the bases with two away in the fifth. Ben Bucholz scored, but David Altstadt, Mike Warne and Taylor Doll were left stranded when Johnson induced Brad Ellingson to ground to shortstop.

Johnson retired the Yellowjackets in order five of seven innings; including the seventh, coming back to the mound after the lightning delay and fanning the side to end the Jacket season.

"We had to have a lot more desire and enthusiasm to win this game," Head Coach Hans Hanson said.

Perham's only other threat to score came in the second inning when Jesse Hein and Ben Brill reached first and third base with nobody out.

Johnson got Shaun Stafki to hit a hot smash to third base. Tyler Fode threw home to Brian Labat who tagged Hein out.

"It was a tough loss," said Hanson. "We pitched well enough to win but didn't hit well enough. Give Detroit Lakes and Brock Johnson a lot of credit. They came up with key hits and pitched well."

Detroit Lakes had a run taken off the scoreboard in the second inning. A roster technicality, showing Andy Pedersen listed as wearing number four, when he was wearing number eight, caused Johnson, who had scored on Pedersen's fielder's choice groundout to shortstop, to return to third base, while Pedersen was called out. Johnson would be stranded when Dan Engberg flied to Bucholz in right field to end the inning.
