The Perham boys basketball team got up early and kept adding to their lead in a 80-37 blowout at Crookston to open the season.

"We played pretty well for the first game," Head Coach Dave Cresap said. "Friday's game versus Pelican Rapids will tell how good we are at this point."

The Jackets' fast start, thanks to an aggressive full-court press, had the game in hand early as Perham jumped on top 21-4. At the break, Perham led by 36 points, 51-15.

The Yellowjacket press was even more effective when Crookston starting point guard Ross Forney left the game due to injury.

Zach Gabbard scored 16 points shooting five of seven from three-point land.

Jordan Bruhn and Mark Schumacher each scored 13 points. Bruhn was 3-4 from the field and 4-5 from the charity stripe, also leading the team with seven assists.

As a team, Perham knocked down 12 three-pointers on 21 attempts, a robust 57 percent from downtown.
