James Laudon

Former Fargo resident James W. Laudon, 85, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, November 2, 2007 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.

James Wilbur Laudon was born to Ernest and Cora (Winjum) Laudon on Dec. 18, 1921, on the family farm in Logan County, near Napoleon, N.D. He was a 1939 graduate of Napoleon High School.

Jim married Bergit Falstad Jan. 4, 1942 in Las Vegas, Nev. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his discharge, he and his bride settled in Fargo, where they shared their married life and raised their two children.

Jim was employed as a Master Electrician for over 40 years. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. and the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years. After his retirement, he enjoyed his four grandchildren along with a lot of fishing, waterskiing and golfing at their home on Lake Maud. In their retirement years, Jim and Bergit did extensive traveling and wintered many years in Santa Cruz, Calif., near their daughter's home.

Jim was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, and also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Fargo, the El Zagel Shrine Club of Fargo, the VFW and Elks.

Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bergit Laudon of Detroit Lakes; a son, Douglas Laudon of Detroit Lakes; daughter, Sherry (Tommy) Skidmore of Santa Cruz; a grandson; three granddaughters; two great grandchildren; and his brother, Lloyd (Emma) Laudon of Centralia, Wash.

Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, Curtis, Kay and Leslie.

A celebration of Jim's Life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the Douglas Laudon home, 11692 E. Lake Eunice Road, rural Detroit Lakes, with Chaplain Vicki Marthaler officiating.
