PARK RAPIDS — Perham senior Jayden Cullen capped off a big week Friday at the Mid-State Conference swimming championships.

Cullen added a Conference 200-freestyle swimming championship to his growing collection of accolades, by a wide margin, swimming 1:54.32. His nearest competitor was Matthew Benson of Park Rapids who finished in 2:02.40. Cullen added a second conference title in the 500-freestyle winning in 5:17.85.


On Wednesday, Cullen was one of eight Perham student-athletes to sing national letters of intent. Cullen will run at North Dakota State University on the indoor and outdoor track teams and the cross country team - on scholarship. Cullen finished fifth at this year's Class A state cross country championship for the two-time defending state and national Division II cross country team champion Yellowjackets.

Cullen qualified for last year's state swimming championships in the 500-freestyle finishing 24th.

The Perham 400-freestyle relay team (Cullen, Ben Sullivan, Todd Brown, Jr. and Patrick Murphy) was awarded all-conference honorable mention for a runner-up time of 3:36.04.

Luke Potts added a thrid place honorable mention finish in the 200-Individual Medley in a time of 2:27.20.

In team scores at the Mid-State, Detroit Lakes won a tight meet defeating Park Rapids 484-478. Perham was third with 207 points.

Perham swimmers are off until the Section 5A championships Feb. 21-22 in Alexandria.
