Jeffrey W. Smith, 55, of Thurston, Neb., passed away on Aug. 1 at Bryan Medical Center, East Campus, in Lincoln, Neb., surrounded by his mother and twin daughters. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Pender, Neb., with Pastor Miles Ruch officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at St. Mark's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Pender.

Jeff was born with a genetic disease called alpha-1 anti-trypsin and contracted emphysema and COPD. Jeff attended and graduated from Pender High School in Pender. Jeff married Carol Carpenter of Homer, Neb. on Oct. 27, 1979, in Emerson, Neb.

Jeff aka "Smitty" was the service billing clerk and computer repair technician at Pender Implement. He could fix anything and everything. He enjoyed fishing and vacationing with his family in Minnesota. Jeff was the chief TV remote operator. He won and lost millions while playing online poker. Most importantly, Jeff loved his wife and twin daughters.

Jeff is welcomed into heaven by his wife, Carol, who passed away on June 1 from ovarian cancer. Also preceding him in death is his father, Richard D. Smith and his nephew, Wade Hoar.

Jeff is survived by his twin daughters, Ashley Smith of Omaha, Neb. and Amber Smith of Lincoln; mother, Billie Smith of Battle Lake, Minn.; sister, Julie (Mark) Hoar of Valley City, N.D.; niece, Shay Hoar of Jamestown, N.D; and Carol's cousin, Robin Bates of Omaha, Neb.

Memorials may be directed to the Smith Family Benefit. Arrangements were under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.
