Jennifer Strege earns crown as Miss Perham '09

About 150 spectators were in the audience as crowns were passed to the new Miss Perham and the new Miss Heart of the Lakes, at the 2009 pageant July 17.

The combined pageant was hosted at the Perham High School auditorium.

Four Perham area women were seeking the Miss Perham crown. Jennifer Strege, 19, earned the title. She is the daughter of Mark and Jo Strege. First runner-up was Brittany Bachmann, daughter of Loren and Donna Guck. Piano was Strege's talent presentation, while Bachmann performed a dance.

Also competing for the crown, worn for the past year by Perham graduate Karlie Miller, were Michelle Honer and Marie Nygaard.

Honer is the daughter of Don and Sandy Honer. Nygaard is the daughter of Todd and Michelle Nygaard.

Winning the regional "Miss Heart of the Lakes" crown was Pelican Rapids native Lacey Erickson.

Special guests for the event included Kassandra Meehl, Miss Perham 2004; Miss Altona Paige Meyer; Emily Peterson; Minnesota Outstanding Teen Katlyn Ziegler; and Miss Minnesota First Runner-Up Sara Larson. Miss Perham 1999 Katlyn Knuttila was Mistress of Ceremonies. On hand to relinquish her Heart of the Lakes crown was Mackenzie Ross.

Pageant director Gina Cavanagh was delighted with the program, which featured a variety of entertainment and performances.

"It went very well, very smoothly," said Cavanagh.

The pageant is presented annually by the Perham Area Women of Focus.
