April 21, 1940-May 15, 2008
JoAnn Foss passed away in her home on Pelican Lake on Thursday, May 15, 2008 with God, her family and Hospice by her side.
JoAnn was born to Ina Mae and Magnus Richard Letnes on April 21, 1940 in Crookston, Minn. She grew up in Climax, Minn., and moved to Moorhead when she was in the 8th grade.
While in the 9th grade, she met her lifelong companion, John, and they shared 53 wonderful years together. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past Feb 1. JoAnn was a stay-at-home mom ("domestic engineer," as she called it) with the exception of doing some various modeling gigs for the local women's clothing stores. She was also fortunate for 24 years to be able to watch her grandchildren grow and participate in their activities.
JoAnn's greatest love, next to her family and friends, was Pelican Lake. She spent every summer at the lake with her children. She dreaded Labor Day when she had to go back to town so the kids could go to school. She finally got her dream when she and John made Pelican Lake their year around home in 1992.
JoAnn was considered the premier social director in the lakes area. She would organize potlucks for Vikings games, group II golf events, parties at the sand bar, girl's trips to Mexico, and the list would go on and on.
JoAnn is survived by her husband John; three children, Mick (Stacey) Foss of Moorhead, Stephanie Foss (grand pups Tosh and Shay) of Lake Park and Diahann (Brad) Falconer of Woodbury, Minn.; five grandchildren; one brother, Ron Letnes of Blaine, Minn.; and her poodle, Sassy.
Preceding JoAnn in death were her parents and a brother, Richard Letnes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested for St. Mary's Innovis Health or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, at Cormorant Lutheran Church, Cormorant, Minn. There will be visitation at the church from noon until the time of services. Interment will be in Cormorant Lutheran Church Cemetery, Cormorant.
