Former Detroit Lakes resident John W. Youngquist, 88, of Green Valley, Ariz., died on Saturday, March 1, 2008 after a brief illness.
John was born in Grasston, Minn., and served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He retired in 1985 as district engineer, after a 44-year career with the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
John was an accomplished woodworker and gardener and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his children and their families.
Surviving John are his wife of 60 years, Signe Youngquist; children Gary (Diane Snyder) Youngquist of Juneau, Alaska, Susan Youngquist (Robert Hargrove) of Ogunquit, Maine, Craig (Carol) Youngquist of Friday Harbor, Wash., Brian (Dee) Youngquist of Newberg, Ore., and Jan Youngquist (Brad Carter) of Minneapolis; brother Ronald of Minneapolis; a sister, Carolyn Anderson of Edina; six grandchildren; as well as several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John W. (Bill) and Tillie R. Youngquist; and brothers Charles and Richard Youngquist.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 29 in Green Valley. If desired, donations in John's memory may be made to the Becker County Food Pantry.
