Funeral services were held for Joyce Hoyhtya of Perham, MN on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Karvonen & Son Funeral Home in New York Mills, MN with Reverend Phil Holtan officiating. The music was provided by Andy and Janet Tumberg. The pallbearers were Jerry Hoyhtya, Nicholas Hoyhtya, Paul Hoyhtya, Ruth Hoyhtya, Eric Bakka, and Peter Bakka. Joyce was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, New York Mills.
Joyce Delores Hoyhtya was born on March 23, 1930 in New York Mills to Aldrich and Ruth (Palo) Hoyhtya. Joyce grew up on the family farm in rural New York Mills. She attended Prairie School District #160. Joyce resided at Scandia Village with her mother, Ruth, for a number of years. She also made her home at the Sheldon Residence in Richville, the Ottertail Lake Residence Home on Ottertail Lake, and recently at West Central Community Services in Perham. Joyce was always very active and enjoyed keeping busy. She enjoyed handwork, crocheting, and embroidery. On July 2, 2009, Joyce passed away at West Central Community Services in Perham at age 79. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Joyce in death were her parents; sister, Marcella; brothers, Clyde and his wife, Florine and James and his wife, Sylvia; and nephew, John Hoyhtya.
Joyce is survived by her sister, Greta Bakka of Brooklyn Center; nieces, Shirley Bakka of Richmond and Virginia and Ruth Hoyhtya of Verndale; nephews, Peter (Darla) Bakka of Ottertail, Jerry (Doreen) Hoyhtya of Ottertail and Paul Hoyhtya of New York Mills; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
