Glendalough State Park


Beginning Canoeing

Wednesday, July 9, 9:30-11:30 a.m. - Learn the basics of canoeing, including safety, strokes and parts of the canoe. Then, go out and practice on Molly Stark Lake. All equipment will be provided. A Minnesota state park vehicle permit is required to attend this event. Call the park for more information or to register.

Wild Wednesday

Wednesday, July 9, 1-3 p.m. – Meet at the Picnic Shelter on Molly Stark for a nature program.  These programs are designed for children aged 5-15, but all are welcome.  We will be exploring topics such as frogs and toads, insects, fish, and more.  Call the park or check online for more specific information regarding the specific date.

Archery in the Park

Saturday, July 19, 12:30-3:30 p.m. – Learn to shoot a bow.  Beginner level archery tutorial sessions will be held.  Children must be 8 years or older to participate.  Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  No reservation or equipment required.  Groups of over 10, however, should call in advance to arrange a separate time.  This is a free event.

Evening Campfire Nature Program

Saturday, July 19, 7-8 p.m. – Join a naturalist at the fire ring on sunset lake for a nature program by the campfire.  Call the park for current topics or for more information.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Paddle the Glendalough Chain of Lakes

Saturday, August 2, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Explore three lakes and the streams connecting them at Glendalough State Park.  This program, for both beginners and experts, will start at Molly Stark Lake and paddle to Lake Blanche.  All ages are welcome, but children must have adult supervision.  A per person fee of $5 includes shuttle, equipment and life jackets.  Bring lunch, sunscreen, bug spray, and a hat.

Maplewood State Park

Christmas in July

Saturday, July 12, 10 a.m. – Join Maplewood State Park in making nature-themed Christmas ornaments.  Class is open to the whole family and held at the main campground’s host site.  Children must attend with parents. Supplies are limited, so when they’re gone, they’re gone.

Owls Children’s Class

Saturday, July 12, 2 p.m. – Preschool and school-aged children are welcome to come learn about owls and make a craft project to take home.  Parents must attend with children.

Drawing Maplewood Flora and Fauna

Saturday, July 19, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Lila Hauge-Stoffel, a retired MSUM Professor of art, will teach drawing with colored pencils and chalk pastels.  All ages are welcome, but children should be under adult supervision.  Supplies provided, no charge.

Nature Photography for Beginners

Saturday, August 2, 10 a.m. – Learn how to take photos of wildlife, plants, or landscapes.  Children must be accompanied by an adult. Class meets at the Trail Center. Event will consist of a 30-minute instructional program, followed by an outdoor photography session.

Camper Bingo

Saturday, August 2, 2-3 p.m. – Play a round of Camper Bingo to win fun prizes. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Held at main campground host site.

Camper Pies

Saturday, August 2, 4 p.m. – Learn yummy recipes for camper pie irons, and then test them yourself.

Come see how easy they are to use and the variety of dishes that can be made with them. All ages welcome, but children should be accompanied. Held  at main campground’s host site. Limited to 25 people, register in advance.
