GLENDALOUGH STATE PARK

Fly tying workshop

Friday, June 6, 6-8 p.m. – Learn how to tie your own fishing flies. All equipment provided, must be 8 years old or older to participate. Space is limited, so register by calling Jeffrey Wiersma at the park.

Fly fishing clinic

Saturday, June 7, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. – Learn the basics of fly fishing from an expert, and then try your skills on Annie Battle Lake. All equipment is provided, but participants should bring a hat, sunscreen and lunch. Participants must be 8 years old or older. Fishing licenses are not required for Minnesota residents. Space is limited, so register by calling Jeffrey Wiersma at the park.

Wild Wednesdays

Wednesday, June 25, 1-3 p.m. – Learn about animals that live in the area. Each week will feature a different topic. Meet at the Molly Stark Lake picnic shelter. A Minnesota state park vehicle permit is required to attend this event. Call the park for more information or to register.

Beginning Canoeing

Wednesday, June 25 9:30-11:30 a.m. – Learn the basics of canoeing, including safety, strokes and parts of the canoe. Then, go out and practice on Molly Stark Lake. All equipment will be provided. A Minnesota state park vehicle permit is required to attend this event. Call the park for more information or to register.

I Can Camp

Friday, June 27 to Saturday, June 28 – Have you always wanted to try camping, but didn’t know how? This program is like camping with training wheels; a trained crew will be on hand to help you master the skills needed to camp on your own. Go on nature walks and watch wildlife, go fishing and learn how to set up camp, tents, start a fire and cook outdoors. A Minnesota state park vehicle permit is required to attend this event. Call the park for more information or to register.

MAPLEWOOD STATE PARK

National Trails Day

Saturday, June 7, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. – Celebrate National Trails Day at Maplewood, along with the grand opening of the park’s North Country National Scenic Trail. Other events for the day will include guided hikes around the park, hiking 101, a photo walk and presentations about the benefits of hiking. A Minnesota state park vehicle permit is required to attend this event. Call the park for more information or to register.

Bugs Galore

Saturday, June 7, 3 p.m. – Come learn about the many different bugs that live in the park at the main campground’s host site. Preschool and school-aged students can make a craft to take home. Parents must attend with children. A Minnesota state park vehicle permit is required to attend this event. Call the park for more information or to register.

Wild Trail Run

Saturday, June 14, various times – Runners, add some variety to your summer at the lakes area’s only trail run with the Running Wild 7k and mile run/hike. Proceeds will benefit the Health Resources LifeCare Center in Fergus Falls. Registration is open through Wednesday, June 11 at www.runningwildtrailrun.com.

Take a Kid Fishing Weekend

Friday, June 6 to Sunday, June 8 – During the Minnesota DNR’s Take a Kid Fishing Weekend, state residents age 16 and older do not need a fishing license while taking a child age 15 or younger fishing.

Muskellunge opener

Saturday, June 7 – Muskie season begins. With the proper licensing, anglers can fish for muskies on Minnesota’s lakes. The season for this fish runs until Dec. 1,with a possession limit of one animal 48 inches or longer.
