The New York Mills Sparks, wearing red and black jerseys this year, traveled to Nevis to compete in their annual Junior Olympic volleyball tournament on Saturday, April 9.

In the 12's bracket, the girls defeated Nevis 2-0, Park Rapids 2-0 and then faced the Heartland team from LaPorte.

This wan an excellent match but the Sparks fell short losing 2-1.

That loss set up a rematch between the Sparks and the same Heartland team in the championship round.

This was just as exciting as the first meeting playing three games. The Sparks rallied back after losing three in a row and won the last two games of the set to bring home the Championship medal.

The 14's team made of Savannah Leiran, Shelby Steinbach, Karlie Pikula, Leshay Metcalf , Hailey Holti, LeAnn Flanigan, and Cheyenne Fosse competed on Saturday as well.

They played well all day and only lost to the Nevis Gold team in three close games to take home second place honors.

On Sunday, the 16's team competed and they did not do well in pool play for the morning but rallied back to beat a Duluth team to bring home third place medals.

Congratulations to all teams on doing well at the first JO tournament of the season. Saturday, April 16th the 12's and 14's will be competing in Verndale.
