Kenny Nelson a finalist for regional entrepreneur award
Kenny Nelson, president and CEO of KLN Family Brands in Perham, is a finalist for the 2013 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in the Upper Midwest region.
The award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. The prestigious award recognizes the significant contributions of entrepreneurs who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement.
Nelson and 28 other finalists were selected from 61 nominations by a panel of independent judges, according to a press release.
Award winners will be announced at a special gala event on June 13 at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center.
The Upper Midwest region includes companies based in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and the Dakotas. Regional award winners go on to compete at the national level. Now in its 27th year, the Entrepreneur Of The Year program has expanded globally to recognize entrepreneurs in more than 140 cities and in more than 50 countries throughout the world.
Collectively, this year’s finalists created nearly 4,000 jobs in the past three years, providing 19,588 jobs at the end of 2012. These companies generated more than $9.6 billion of revenue in 2012, and grew their company’s employment by nearly 20 percent and their revenues by 40 percent between 2010 and 2012.
