At a special school board meeting on April 10, the Perham-Dent School Board approved updates to the district’s Kid’s Adventure preschool program.

One of the primary changes was to the class offerings for kids ages 4 and 5. Parents can now choose between two or four full-day programs, in addition to the two and four half-day options.

In a summary given to the board, Heart of the Lakes Elementary School Principal Jen Hendrickson said a recent survey of parents in the district showed an “overwhelming response” in favor of full-day preschool options.

District Superintendent Mitch Anderson said, depending on cost and reception from parents, the four-day program might be upped to five days a week. Otherwise, Anderson noted, families are often left to arrange for child care one day of the week.

This change could potentially be made as early as this fall.

The board also approved an increase in preschool tuition for next school year, and set the rate for the new full-day classes.

Currently, a year’s tuition for attending two half-days a week is $675. Four half-days is $1,350. Beginning next school year, half-day tuition will be $828 for two days and $1,656 for four. The new full-day classes will be $1,656 for two days and $3,285 for four.

Kid’s Adventure had 113 students enrolled this school year. There were also children on waiting lists.
