After a somewhat less than impressive showing against Thief River Falls in their last home outing May 13, the Detroit Lakes boys' tennis team rebounded in a big way Thursday with a dominating win over Perham, as they swept the Yellowjackets 7-0.

"We played extremely well as a team," said Detroit Lakes' head coach, Wade Johnson. "Garret Duncan and Derick Brehm played extremely well at No. 1 doubles, and Jesse Meyer and Isaac Fondrick continue to play very well for us."

Duncan and Brehm narrowly missed a shutout in their 6-0, 6-1 trouncing of Perham's Randy Swanson and Madison Paridon, while singles players Meyer and Fondrick were equally dominating in their respective matches.

Meyer downed Perham junior Jordan Cresap 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles position, while Fondrick topped Dillon Shields 6-1, 6-0.

DL's top two singles players had a little bit of additional good news this week. Meyer and Fondrick both received all-conference honors in the Mid-State Conference meet, where DL finished second earlier this month.

The No. 2 Laker doubles team of Ethan Brekke and Cody Jordan put up a score identical to their counterparts in the No. 1 position, downing Perham duo Austin Andreen and James Hersch 6-0, 6-1.

At No. 3 doubles, Lakers Collin Harris and Tom Warweg dropped Perham's Trevor Meece and Mike Botzet 6-1, 6-3.

"Collin Harris seems to be finding his game as we near sections as well," the DL coach said.

In other action, DL's No. 3 singles player Andy Schupp cruised to a 6-1 victory in the first set, but Perham's Alphonse Shoeneberger put up more of a fight in the second, before Schupp finally prevailed 7-5.

At No. 4 singles, DL's Alex Fondrick cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Perham's Chad Hofland.

Detroit Lakes freshman Austin Nelson played Perham sophomore Christian Hinckley, in an exhibition. Hinckley was a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) winner.

Brian Howey and Kiowa Wieser-Mathews also had exhibition victories.
