Lakes Family Eye Care is celebrating a decade of offering unique eyewear for women.

The Perham business has had a successful 10 years, according to owner Gail Pavlacky, with its customer count more than doubling in that time.

Pavlacky credits this to the strong, "sense of community support" here. Perham residents support their local businesses more so than in any other town she has worked in, she said, and she is grateful for that.

Pavlacky believes Lakes Family Eye Care has found its niche in Perham - offering women unique (and never duplicated) frames.

This practice, "started in the beginning because I thought ladies in a small town didn't want to wear the same frame as three others in town," she said.

To assure this, once a frame is sold, it may be reordered in a different color, but as a rule, Lakes Family Eye Care doesn't bring the same frame back.

This rule hasn't limited frame choice, Pavlacky said, as customers can choose from more than 700 frames from exclusive designers.

Pavlacky said over the years she has had fun watching frame styles change - currently the trend is "a vintage and retro design with a modern twist."

On the medical side of the business, Lakes Family Eye Care offers full health screens for macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.

Child screenings, contact exams and regular adult exams are also offered.

Three optometrists share the duties: Dr. Kristen Schuchard, Dr. Corey Becker and Dr. Melissa McCulley. A specialist in ophthalmology is available for patient referrals for cataracts.

Laurie Miller and Pavlacky share the duties of opticians.
