Richard L. "Larry" Gibson, 76, of Frazee, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes.
Richard Larry Gibson was born to Thomas and Elizabeth (Royle) Gibson on Jan. 22, 1932, in Bear Creek Township, Oakes, N.D. He attended school at Riverdale Elementary and graduated from Oakes High School in 1949. After high school, he worked for area farms and in the oil fields in Tioga, N.D.
From 1956-65, Richard worked for Collins Road Construction during the summers and taught school in McClusky, N.D. and Wishek, N.D. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education at North Dakota State College, Ellendale, in 1966. On Aug. 20, 1966, Richard married Patricia Dawson. They moved to Frazee, where he taught for 27 years until he retired in 1993. During these years of teaching, he also did some carpentry work. "Larry" loved woodworking. He was often called upon to fix small appliances and build furniture for family and friends. He also enjoyed reading, cooking, and crafts.
Richard is survived by his wife, Pat Gibson of Frazee; two daughters, Maria (Arlen) Klamm of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Laura (Jeremy) Williams of St. Hilaire, Minn.; two sons, Troy (Jill) Gibson of Byron, Minn., and Shane (Beverly) Gibson of Grand Forks, N.D.; two brothers, Tim (Irene) Gibson of Oakes, N.D., and Michael (Barbara) of Milwaukee, Ore.; two sisters, Patty (Jerry) Coon of Oakes, N.D., and Cora Ridder of Casselton, N.D.; a sister-in-law, Florence Gibson of Oakes, N.D.; as well as nine grandchildren.
His parents, Thomas and Elizabeth; three brothers, Samuel, Bill and Harry; and two sisters, Daisy Nassen and Peggy Nikle, preceded Richard in death.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, June 15 at Furey Funeral Home in Frazee, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and continuing for one hour prior to the start of services Monday.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, June 16, at the Frazee Event Center, with the Rev. Gary Klempke officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Frazee.
