Last year’s runner-up wins 11th annual Average Jo Triathlon

PERHAM — Last year’s runner-up Casey Miller, of Baxter, returned to win the 11th annual Average Jo Triathlon in a time of 1:03.40.

Miller finished the 0.3-mile swim in 8:02, the 12-mile bike ride in 30:24 and the four-mile run in 23.58. Fargo's Brandon Scheel placed second two minutes behind Miller in 1:05.41.

Cheryl Rosentreter of Geneval, Ill., was the top female finishers placing 13th overall in a time of 1:17.09. She was the top female last year in a time of 1:13.08.

Perham's Ben Olson was the top local male finisher placing 23rd in 1:23.00. Patty Jaeger, of Vergas, was the top local female racer in 28th place (1:25.03).

In the team portion of the race, Tri Velocity, consisting of Matthew Shipman, Mark Shipman and Jacob Elmer edged out Two Fat Guys and a Skinny Guy (Frank Thoburn, Jordan Moe, and Jason Brill) by 3.5 minutes. Tri Velocity's winning time was 1:13.32.

Other notable local finishes: Laura Nyhus (1:26.17) Perham was runner-up in the 30-39 female group. Jerry Huebsch (1:31.18) of Perham placed first in the male 60-up group.

Olivia Hartell of Savage was the youngest competitor (12) to complete the race. She finished in 2:00.42.

The most experienced racer, for the second straight year, was 71-year-old Bob Koshnick of Detroit Lakes who finished the triathlon in 1:41.49 - third place in the 60-up group.

The triathlon attracted 129 racers and 11 teams. 120 racers finished.
