LaVonne Apland, 68, of Moorhead, Minn. (formerly of New York Mills), passed away peacefully on Feb. 19 after a short, but courageous battle with lung cancer, surrounded by her loving daughters and the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, along with the caregivers of Eventide at the Fairmont. Funeral services were held on Feb. 22 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in New York Mills, with the Reverend Muriel Hachfeld officiating. Pallbearers were Aaron Hillier, Alex Hillier, Joshua Jorgensen, Alan Kingren, Craig Kingren and Ryan Cloutier.
LaVonne Louise Kingren was born on May 2, 1945 in Morris, Minn., to Walter and Alma (Mohrman) Kingren. LaVonne grew up and attended school in Morris.
LaVonne volunteered as a "grandmother" at the New York Mills Elementary School, where she enjoyed going to school each day making a difference to the many children whom she loved dearly. She was also deeply involved at her church, First Congregational United Church of Christ, in New York Mills.
LaVonne enjoyed baking and cooking, which brought happiness to many. She loved WII bowling at Eventide Fairmont; she was a fantastic bowler and won the WII bowling tournament.
LaVonne's family is deeply thankful for the care she received from both Hospice and the Fairmont staff during the past few months.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Preceding LaVonne in death were her parents; brothers, Raymond Kingren and Kirk Kingren; and son-in-law, Paul Beito.
LaVonne is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Ross) Hillier and Candace (Danni) Halvorson; four grandchildren, Nicolle, Aaron, Alex Hillier and Lexi Halvorson; siblings, Dolly (Norman) Scott, Butch (Vicky) Kingren, twin sister LaRae (Joel) Sachariason, LeRoy Kingren, Janice (Roger) Cloutier and Jerry (Sue) Kingren; sister-in-law, Jean Kingren; aunts, Margaret Kingren and Agnus Williamson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of special friends.
